Our sponsored session, Speculatio, Medieval and Modern, will be on Thursday morning at 10:00 in Schneider 1140. It looks to be a great panel: co-organized by Beate Fricke and Niklaus Largier of UC Berkeley. Speakers include Elizabeth Pastan (Emory U) with “A Rose by Any Other Name: Speculating about the Rose Window,” Jennifer Borland (Oklahoma State) on “Resisting Speculation/Embracing Speculation,” and Ittai Weinryb (Bard Grad Center) on “Medieval Tupperware.” Join us!

We would also LOVE to see you at the Material Collective Business Meeting—Friday at 12:00 in Fetzer 2030. We’ll discuss ideas for next year’s sessions and get your input on future directions for the organization in general. Come share your great ideas.

And, of course, on Friday evening at 5:15 there’s our reception with open bar in the President’s Dining Room in Bernhard, co-sponsored with our friends at the BABEL Working Group. We have a new project to announce, and we’ll have some cool swag to give away, so don’t miss it!

These days, there are so many amazing groups, parties, sessions, organizations, and events that we’re interested in–we couldn’t possibly list them all. Here are a few highlights and links to other groups’ activities that we recommend:

There are great sessions sponsored by BABEL, ICMA (“Picturing the Present” on Thursday at 1:30pm), SFMS, MEARCSTAPA, AND ASIMS (with a series of sessions on Art, Architecture, female tricksters, and the Celtic Revival)

Of course, there’s the BABEL party at Bell’s on Friday night at 9.

And, you should totally join the conversation about a “Recipe for a Better Peer Review (A Roundtable)” on Saturday at 1:30pm in Fetzer 1005.

See you at the zoo!
